Maple burl hybrid

Midwest Hybrid’s Professional results and 5 star review rating is achieved by adhering to these strict standards:

1. High quality burl is processed in house
a. Hand cleaned and inspected to ensure that bark and foreign debris is removed
b. Burl is then kiln dried to reduce stress in the wood
c. Oven dried to absolutely zero percent moisture
d. Finally our burl is then stabilized under full vacuum for up to 72 hours

2. All color combinations are selected using 100% compatible dyes, pigments, glitters, and other material.

3. “Alumilite Clear” resin. This resin was specifically formulated for turning on a lathe, is odorless, softer, and less brittle then factory made
acrylic blanks. All castings are then temp control cured under pressure to ensure a bubble free experience that will turn like butter
when using a sharp tool at high speed!

4. Product testing:
a. Blanks are turned with every new 10 gallon batch of resin to ensure quality is not compromised.
b. New hybrids that include additional features other than burl put through strenuous testing before release (turning on high/low
speed, turning with carbide/traditional tooling).

Advantages of stabilized wood:

1. End grain tear-out is no longer a problem now that your wood has been impregnated and hardened with epoxy.
2. Stabilized wood allows for a better finish! The pours in the wood are now filled with stabilizer providing a smoother surface that will
shine like glass.
3. Stabilized wood does not breath/expand/shrink with weather. Finished artwork will not cause stress between the acrylic resin and the
wood which can eventually lead to cracks.

Finishing Notes:

1. We quality inspect each blank for inclusions but cannot eliminate all within the wood. CA may need to be applied on rare occasion to fill
any small voids in the wood.
2. Its best practice to paint your tubes/blanks to ensure that the brass does not show (our preferred method is to simply blacken the tube
with a sharpie before glue-up.
3. Pen blank sizes are cut slightly larger than 3/4” x 3/4” x 5” long and are JR and Full size compatible!
